Al-Layth ibn Sa'ed Rahimullah Ta'ala (d. 175H) said:
"If I saw a person of desires (i.e innovaties) walking upon the water I would not accept from him" So Imaam ash-Shaafi'ee then said, "He (al-Layht) has fallen short. If I saw him walking in the air I would not accept from him". Reported by as Suyootie in Al Al-Amr bil 'Ittibaa wan-Nahee 'anil-Ibtidaa.
Al-Layth bin Sa?d Rahimullah Ta'ala(d. 175H) zei:
'Al zou ik een persoon van begeertes (innovaties) over het water zien lopen dan zou ik nog niets van hem aannemen.
Vervolgens zei Imaam as-Shaafi'ie Rahimullah Ta'ala: ?Hij (al-Layth) is tekort gekomen (hij is te mild). Ik zou zeggen: Al zou ik hem in de lucht zien lopen dan zou ik nog niets van hem aannemen.
